Preschoolers on the go at Austintown library
Linda Gerberry paid close attention to story time, but her granddaughter Madeline Gerberry may have been daydreaming.
Debbie Pirone and daughter, Jenna, loved to learn about the theme of the story time - “things that go,” like buses, cars and planes.
Alexis Beaudis held her steering wheel high during “Wheels on the Bus,” and her grandma, Jan Lintner joined in the fun.
The 2 and 3-year-old girls who attended the story time were happy to play with the plush bus that was a counting tool earlier in the event.

The 2 and 3-year-olds at the Austintown library were learning all about planes, trains and automobiles Sept. 7.
With most of the older children at school or preschool, librarian Kathe Orr planned the “2’s and 3’s Story Time” with books and games that got the kids acquainted with Things that Go.
“I talked about yellow school buses as often as I could, so they’ll know what it is when it’s time for them to go to school,” said Orr. “Beyond that familiarity I want to teach, I’m trying to give them the pre-literacy skills they’ll need when they start school.”
To achieve this, Orr included rhyming, counting, and repetition during books like “The Little Engine that Could” and during games like “Wheels on the Bus.” Orr even brought a plush yellow bus that she used to show how children get off and on the school bus.
The children left with paper-plate steering wheels in hand, planning to help their parents or grandparents drive all the way back home.
