Madison McLemore, a senior in the interactive multimedia program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, began her senior year with a new piece of artwork to add to her portfolio — a piece featured in Youngstown State University’s Hispanic Heritage Celebration.
McLemore of Poland won first place in YSU’s Student Art Competition for Hispanic Heritage Month.
In addition to winning prize money, her work was featured on posters and programs promoting the event.
Artwork was judged on originality, technical style and skill and reflection of this year’s theme, “Listen to our Hispanic Voices.”
McLemore said she drew her inspiration for the piece from the image of a salsa dancer.
Her vibrant artwork is a mixed-media piece that incorporates pen and ink with bright watercolors.
“I really wanted to do something that represented Hispanic culture and something that would be different and stand out,” she said.
