Fall cleanup planned

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Litter Control and Recycling Department is having a citywide fall cleanup today.

The event starts with a rally in front of the Covelli Centre box office at 8 a.m. Participants are asked to register between 8 a.m. and noon. While there, participants will receive free trash bags, gloves, T-shirts and bottled water.

More than 700 volunteers participated in the city’s spring cleanup.

The first 600 individuals registered will receive a free T-shirt.

YSU seeks input

Youngstown State University is seeking input from the community on its new strategic plan, which will create a map for the university through 2020.

Members of the community are invited to attend one of the following forums, all of which will be in the trustees’ meeting room on the first floor of Tod Hall on the YSU campus: 7 to 8:30 a.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday; and 7 to 8:30 a.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Road maintenance

High Street between Glenwood Avenue and Edwards Street will be closed Monday through Oct. 5 for pavement repairs. Traffic will be detoured around the area.

Teen shot in foot

YOUNGSTOWN

An 18-year-old Youngstown man was shot in the foot while walking on the city’s East Side.

Police said the Drummond Avenue man told them he was walking about 11:30 p.m. Thursday on McGuffey Road when he heard a gunshot and felt a sharp pain in his right foot. The man saw a four-door black car speed away after the shooting and has no idea who shot him, according to a police report.

The man was treated and released from St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Community forum

About 1,000 Mahoning Valley residents are expected to attend a “community congress” to discuss the issues of vacant properties and job creation at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 30 W. Front St.

Yvette McGee Brown, the Democratic lieutenant- governor candidate, will attend the event as will other candidates and officeholders. They will answer questions from local residents about neighborhood and economic revitalization and other issues.

The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative as part of its nonpartisan electoral effort.

The MVOC will have a similar event at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Park Ave., Warren.

Stolen computer

WARREN

A security guard for Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital reported that a “mobile computer” was stolen from the hospital early Thursday. The computer was described as large and black, with a flat screen and TMH stamped on the back.

Christine Ruggieri, director of community relations for the hospital, said the computer contained no information about patients.
