A council member says the city will not re-install no-parking signs that were removed on Fifth Street.
Fifth Street, which is divided between the 1st and 2nd wards, had the signs along the west side of the street in the 2nd Ward. But those signs were removed last fall after 2nd Ward residents on the east side complained about them.
People who live on the west side of the street in the 1st Ward told council at a meeting earlier this month that they would like the signs put back up.
They said bus and truck traffic on the street has increased, and the signs make the street safer.
Robert Stouffer, 2nd Ward council member, said at that meeting that no-parking signs were left up at Fifth and Creed streets because parked cars did block views there. But the signs were removed farther down the street after the complaints.
At a council meeting this week, 1st Ward Councilman Tony Fire said Police Chief Tim Roddy checked out the street and is confident there’s no safety problem without the signs there.
“That puts it to rest,” Fire said.
