POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Sept. 16

Identity theft: An Elmland Drive woman discovered an unauthorized $84 charge to her debit-card account.

Sept. 18

Identity theft: A Denver Drive man filed a report after finding a $59 charge had been made to his debit card without consent.

Sept. 21

Theft by deception: Struthers Municipal Court issued an arrest warrant after township police had received a report regarding the theft of more than $7,300 worth of property and services from a Roselynn Place residence. No information about the suspect was in the report, however.

BOARDMAN

Sept. 19

Theft: A Lemans Drive woman reported spare change stolen from her car.

Theft: Two 17-year-old girls, one each from Apollo, Pa., and New Castle, Pa., were charged with stealing $80 worth of makeup from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Burglary: Sixty-eight prescription pills were taken from an apartment in the 500 block of Boardman-Canfield Road someone had entered via the front door.

Domestic violence: Police booked 20-year-old Eric E. Metzger, 365 E. Midlothian Blvd., Boardman, at the Mahoning County jail on a charge of making domestic-violence threats. Metzger’s girlfriend alleged he had threatened to harm her and her child.

Theft: Anthony D. Elder, 40, of 169 N. Ridgeview Drive, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of four pairs of women’s jeans from the J.C. Penney store in the Southern Park Mall.

Domestic violence: A 14-year-old township girl was charged with the crime after her father alleged the teen had bitten and scratched his left arm during an argument.

Theft: A Green Glen Drive man reported an $18,000 gold wristwatch stolen.

Breaking and entering: A door to a home in the 6500 block of South Avenue had been removed from its frame.

Theft: Seven extension ladders, hand tools and several other items were removed from a work truck in the 1700 block of Lemont Drive.

Sept. 20

Weapon: A Brookfield Avenue man reported hearing six gunshots from the road near his residence.

Theft: Someone stole 44 aluminum panels, costing Spectrum Metal Finishing Inc., 535 Bev Road, roughly $10,000.

Robbery: A teen, age 16 to 18, fled after having threatened to strike an employee of Dollar General, 5953 South Ave., who tried to stop him when merchandise was stolen.

Burglary: A duplicate key may have been used to enter a home in the 6000 block of Applecrest Court, from which a Wii game system and two video games were stolen.

Theft: A man and a woman stole items from Dollar General.

Arrest: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 224 led to the arrest of 45-year-old Classie D. Brown, 2917 Shady Run Road, Youngstown, on a probation-violation charge.

Theft: A Bayport, N.Y., man staying at a Tiffany Boulevard motel reported the theft of a license plate and a credit card.

Disrupting public services: The owners of an apartment building in the 7400 block of West Boulevard told police a disgruntled former tenant likely tampered with a hot-water tank, causing water to drain in and damage the apartment.

Theft: Two people were detained after six articles of women’s clothing were stolen from Walmart.

Identity fraud: A Hunters Glen Drive woman discovered someone has been using her name, address and phone number online without authorization.

Misuse of a credit card: A woman whose wallet had been stolen at a Boardman-Canfield Road store reported that her credit card was used to make a $110 purchase.

Criminal damaging: Scratches were on a vehicle’s passenger-side door in the 800 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Sept. 21

Auto theft: A 1993 GMC Sierra was stolen in the 5200 block of Youngstown-Poland Road.

Attempted auto theft: Two of a vehicle’s doors and its steering column were damaged in the 5000 block of Youngstown-Poland Road, evidently after someone tried to steal the car.

Menacing: A Lemans Drive woman said two people threatened to harm her after she asked them to leave her yard.

Assault: A man reported the owner of a Boardman-Canfield Road business pushed him during an argument.

Identity fraud: A Midgeview Drive man who tried to get a store credit card and was declined found out his name and date of birth were being used with a different Social Security number.

Auto theft: A 1998 Honda Accord was stolen in the 7000 block of Southern Boulevard.

Burglary: Occurred in the 50 block of Shadyside Drive through a basement window. Cooper piping was stolen.

Theft: A Simon Road woman told officers she wired $600 to a tree-service company to remove a fallen tree, but the business never did the work.

Sept. 22

Theft: David Kopnitsky, 30, of 97 Katherine St., Struthers,, was charged in the theft of $65 worth of cologne from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.

Theft: Eight pairs of men’s jeans were stolen from The Buckle in the Southern Park Mall.

Theft: A man reported his $200 cell phone stolen from a locker at a Boardman-Canfield Road business.

Theft: Five people ordered $52 worth of food from Denny’s Restaurant, 154 Boardman-Canfield Road, and left without paying.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A customer rented but failed to return a vehicle to Hertz Rent-a-Car, 7735 Market St.

Attempted fraud: Someone tried to make a $3,000 purchase at a township store with a credit card belonging to a woman who had reported her wallet stolen at a Tiffany Boulevard business.

Theft by deception: A Tudor Lane man reported a caller claiming he owes thousands of dollars informed the accuser he needed to send a check.

Theft: A 17-year-old Youngstown boy was charged after three bottles of cologne were stolen from Walmart.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 7400 block of Market Street had damage to its passenger-side mirror.

Misuse of a credit card: A woman’s stolen automated-teller-machine card was used to make $346 worth of unauthorized withdrawals in the township.

Sept. 23

Attempted theft: A Wolosyn Circle woman confronted a man whom she saw in a neighbor’s vehicle. The man fled.

Aggravated menacing: A vehicle registration check near South Avenue resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Yasmin A. Hough, 64 E. Avondale Ave., Youngstown. Hough was wanted by Youngstown police on a warrant.
