Family sues trade school over son’s death
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The family of a student who was electrocuted at a suburban Philadelphia trade school last year have filed a lawsuit against the school.
The suit filed Wednesday against Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades claims the school did not properly train or supervise 18-year-old Michael Savage Jr. when he was sent to work on a commercial fixture on campus.
According to the suit, the Glenolden teen was fatally shocked when he plugged the fixture into a portable cord reel after he and another student replaced the wiring.
The family’s attorney says the suit was filed because the school promised an investigation but hasn’t provided any answers.
Guy Gardner, the president of the school in Media, told KYW-TV he couldn’t comment specifically on the case but the school has made many safety improvements since Savage’s death.
