Concert Sunday to benefit boy with no legs
A benefit concert featuring Edward Bak on piano and John Camuso, tenor, is planned at 3 p.m. Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, Boardman.
A free-will offering will be taken; money will go to buy prosthetics for Nicholai “Kolya” Denykin, a 10-year-boy from Russia who was born without legs. The Rev. Kathryn Adams, director Youngstown State Univeristy’s Proestant Campus Ministries (PCM), met Kolya in 2006 when she led a To Russia with Love volunteer-in-mission team to the Renewal Orphanage in Dimitrov, Russia. The Rev. Mrs. Adams, who has spearheaded 17 mission teams to orphanages in Russia, and the To Russia with Love mission team is an extension of PCM. She made arrangements for Kolya to come to the United States and be fitted for prosthetics.
Sponsors are Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates Inc., WYSU 88.5 FM and To Russia with Love non-profit organization, an extension of Protestant Campus Ministries at Youngstown State University. Gary Sexon of WYSU will be master of ceremonies.
Refreshments will follow the concert. Those attending can meet Kolya.
