15-month-old girl ‘critical’ after nearly drowning in bathtub

A 15-month-old girl is in critical condition at Akron Children’s Hospital after she nearly drowned in the bathtub of her family’s home on Washington Street Northeast on Tuesday morning.

The girl’s mother had put the girl and an older girl in the tub together and asked her father, age 47, of Warren, to keep an eye on them while she was busy elsewhere in the house, Warren police said.

The man said he could hear the girls in the tub splashing water, but when he checked on them, the younger girl was underwater and not breathing.

The man attempted to resuscitate the girl, but the child was not breathing when paramedics arrived, police said.

The police department and Trumbull County Children Services Board were investigating and monitoring the child’s condition. No charges have been filed in the case, said Warren Detective Michael Currington.
