Valley Legacy Awards to honor outstanding seniors, advocate
AUSTINTOWN
Recognized at the Valley Legacy Awards luncheon at noon Oct. 14 at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center, 7440 South Ave., Boardman, will be 25 nominees, and Valley Legacy Awards will be presented to three Outstanding Seniors and to two Outstanding Advocates for Seniors.
Those nominated by the community for the Outstanding Senior award are: Betty Brindiar, Lewis Speece and Chuck Whitman, all of Canfield; Elizabeth Cole Clark, Jack Gibson, Jean Schlecht and Dr. Ralph “Jim” Snelson, all of Warren; Wilford “Willie” Culler of Lisbon; Carolyn Hughes of McDonald; Carolyn Mays and Charles Myers, both of Youngstown; Geraldine Peterson, Ileene Shaffer-Rozich and S. Paul Wright, all of Girard; Dorothy Roberts of East Liverpool; and Madeline Shanks of Poland.
Nominees for the Outstanding Advocate for Seniors award are: Bill Adams, Dean McClaine and Martha Whelan Murphy, all of Youngstown; Nicole Agani of Warren; Raella Baker of Brookfield; Karen Buchmann of Salem; Michelle George of Negley; Charity Ricciardi of Austintown; and Guardian Angels of Ohio.
The inaugural Cliff Johnson Valley Legacy Memorial Award for Timeless Service to the Community will be presented in honor of the memory of Bruce Gordon.
“The Valley Legacy Awards are designed to honor living members of the area who believe legacies are meant to be lived, not just left,” said Michele Hoffmeister, committee co-chairwoman. Rich Morgan, WKBN-TV weatherman, will host the event.
