Police: Dad left son, 4, in car to visit bar
BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A Pittsburgh-area man is facing charges after police say he left his sleeping 4-year-old son alone in a car while he went into a bar.
Police in Bridgeville say 41-year-old David Hopfer’s car was in a no-parking zone in front of a bar on Tuesday. Then an officer spotted the child inside the unlocked vehicle.
According to police, Hopfer went inside to buy beer. After his arrest, police say they found methadone in a pill bottle labeled for a different prescription.
Hopfer is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held at the Allegheny County Jail on $10,000 bail.
The child was released to his mother.
