Ella Peterson to present concert

Ella Peterson will perform a concert, which will be a live recording, at 6 p.m. Saturday at Elizabeth Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Ave. Also featured will be guest artist, D.J. Roger of Sacramento, Calif. Doors open at 5. The singer is the wife of the Rev. Willie Peterson, pastor of New Birth Kimmelbrook Baptist Church and executive director of the Center for Community Empowerment, 1420 Dogwood Lane, a 501c3 organization, which is sponsoring the event.
Ella Peterson, administrator of the center, is a liver transplant recipient. The concert is a means to spread the word about organ donation in the black community. The concert will benefit the Christian Donor Network. Monetary donations are being accepted.

Percussion recital

The Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University will present its fall percussion studio recital, led by Dr. Glenn Schaft, associate professor of percussion studies, at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Bliss Hall Room 2326.
A variety of percussion selections will be performed including “Time Will Tell” composed by Bobby Watson and arranged by Dr. David Morgan, associate professor of jazz studies at Dana.
The recital is free. Parking is available in the Wick Avenue deck for a nominal fee.

In response to the great turn-out for recent area productions of “Chicago” at the Youngstown Playhouse and “Our Town” at the Victorian Players, Oakland Center for the Arts, 220 W. Boardman St., will thank theater supporters by offering a $3 discount on tickets to its upcoming run of “Closer” to anyone who brings their ticket stub from “Chicago” or “Our Town.”
Tickets for Sunday’s performance will be buy-one-full-price-ticket, get-one-for-$5 and the Sept. 30 show will feature all $5 tickets.
Theater patrons also may purchase specially discounted Oakland Season Flexpasses for $50 each. This offer is good only for the run of “Closer.”Directed by the award-winning Robert Dennick Joki, “Closer” will feature a cast of Youngstown State University students and alumni.
