O’Charley’s, 930 Windham Court, is sponsoring Score a Touchdown for our United Way from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The evening will feature the “YSU Coaches Show” with head coach Eric Wolford and media personalities.
Raffles will include a Jeff Wilkins Jersey; small Ohio State University helmets signed by former OSU players Ted Ginn Jr. and Alex Boone; OSU football signed by head coach Jim Tressel; YSU football signed by Wolford; tailgate chairs; YSU home-opener tickets; and Back to Football: Minnesota Vikings v. New Orleans Saints.
Proceeds benefit United Way, United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.
Animal First Aid
Boardman
American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering its “Dog and Cat First Aid” at their Boardman location, 8381 Market St., behind Bruno Brothers Restaurant, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday. This is a 3 1/2-hour course designed by a doctor of veterinary medicine in conjunction with the Human Society of the United States and American Red Cross in 1997 to help the typical dog or cat owner care for and protect their pet. At the end of the course, pet owners will be able to recognize animal emergencies and give appropriate emergency care until veterinary help can be provided.
The course fee is $35, which includes a handbook and CD for each participant and helps support critical Red Cross services such as Service to Armed Forces, Disaster Services, blood-pressure screenings and many more American Red Cross programs in the Valley.

Women’s seminar

TeamBundy Mixed Martial Arts, Pine Tree Plaza, will offer a women’s self-defense and empowerment seminar at 2 p.m. Sept. 18. The cost is $25, and all proceeds will be donated to Sojourner House Domestic Violence Shelter.
“The women who take this seminar will know how to react in an attack situation and be prepared with confidence,” says owner Jim Bundy. TeamBundy Mixed Martial Arts offers martial arts and fitness training for men, women and children.

Sojourner House Domestic Violence Shelter is a program of Burdman Group Inc. It is the only emergency shelter in the county providing a safe haven for women and children escaping from an abusive environment 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Flu vaccinations
Greenville, Pa.
Greenville Medical Center, 90 Shenango St., will host an adult seasonal flu vaccination clinic for its patients from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 18. Vaccines are for patients age 18 and older. Those who go to the clinic for flu shots should wear short sleeves and bring their insurance cards. Patients planning to attend the clinic should check with their insurance providers to see if the cost of the vaccination is covered. If insurance does not cover the vaccine, the cost is $39. Appointments are required by calling UPMC at 724-588-4240.
CPR/AED course
Youngstown
A course in CPR/AED Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrilator Course adult/child/infant two-year certificate is offered from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 22 at National Safety Council Northern Ohio Chapter, Ohio One Building, 25 E.
