Ohio man pleads guilty to killing stepson

TROY, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man has pleaded guilty to aggravated murder in the death of his adult stepson, who police say was shot seven times as the older man kidnapped his 7-year-old son.

Jeff Bedinger pleaded guilty Monday to killing 22-year-old Brandon Haskins in July at an apartment in Troy, outside Dayton, where Haskins lived with the boy and their mother, Bedinger’s estranged wife.

Police say 50-year-old Bedinger of Dayton shot Haskins after Bedinger and his wife attended a counseling session. Police say he then took his son, setting off a nationwide Amber Alert before dropping him off with Indiana relatives.

The Dayton Daily News reports that Bedinger’s attorney said his client wanted to take responsibility for his behavior.

The Miami County prosecutor declined comment. Bedinger could get a life sentence.
