Giuriceo to fight Lopez on Saturday

Campbell’s Jake Giuriceo (7-0-1, 2 KOs) will fight Orlando’s Roberto Lopez (3-0-2) in a six-round light welterweight bout as part of the “Rage in the Ring” on Saturday at the ITAM on S. Meridian.

The weigh-in is at 2 p.m. Friday at Los Gallos in Boardman.

Volley For The Cure

The South Range volleyball team will play at Springfield Local tonight in a Volley For The Cure match. Doors open at 4:45 p.m. with the junior varsity match set for 5:30 p.m.

All proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen For The Cure Foundation.

Harris fights Friday

Youngstown cruiserweight Joshua Harris IV completed a four-week sparring session with WBC cruiserweight champ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (43-2, 32 KOs) of Poland.

While Harris was still in Poland he received a invitation from WBO cruiserweight champ Marco Huck (30-1, 23 KOs) to spar with him in Germany.

Harris (6-3-1, 5 KOs) is ranked third in the US for cruiserweights by BoxRec.

He is to fight Friday in Franklin Square, NY. against Kamarah Pasley (5-4, 2 KOs) of Philadelphia.

Poland, Hubbard girls are golf champions

CORTLAND

Poland carded a 343 to win the Red Tier championship of the AAC girls golf tournament on Monday at Tamer Win Golf Course.

The medalist was Poland’s Maria Mancini with a 73.

Hubbard took the White Tier championship with a 386 and Taylor Puncekar (Hubbard) was the medalist with a 93.

Joey Merlo selected

University of Mount Union sophomore Joey Merlo (Niles/Cardinal Mooney) was named Ohio Athletic Conference men’s soccer player of the week.

Merlo scored three goals during the Purple Raiders’ 3-0 week, including game-winners against Bethany (W. Va.) and St. John Fisher (N.Y.).

Merlo was named Most Valuable Player of the Wittenberg Invitational, which featured Mount Union wins over Earlham and St. John Fisher.

The FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series returned to Sharon Speedway for the third and final time of the 2010 racing season and once again as part of the Apple Festival Nationals.

The two-day event saw a FASTRAK Weekly Series event on Friday night followed by race #18 of 20 on the Northeast Touring Series on Saturday night.

Max Blair led all 25 laps of the FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series feature event and Josh Double challenged for the National Weekly Series and Touring Series point leader.

Brazil’s top Olympic official says the country is aiming to finish in the top 10 in the medal count at the 2016 Rio Games.

Carlos Arthur Nuzman, president of Brazil’s Olympic committee, announced the target Monday in a meeting with Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
