YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Post Office, 99 S. Walnut St., downtown, has developed a special postmark to be used on Sept. 25 to recognize the contributions of Scouting in the community.

A Scouting Stamp Special Dedication will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in the lobby of the downtown Post Office with local Scouting officials, Scouts, military and veterans representatives and local officials.

The public is encouraged to attend and write letters or send care packages to service personnel that morning to make use of the unique postmark.

A mailing station for letters and care packages will be set up in the post office lobby that morning so anyone can write a letter or take items to package up and mail.

Visit the 100th anniversary Scouting website, www.scouting.org/100years/100years/100yearsStamp.aspx and get helpful information.

There also will be a special Scouting envelope with the Scout stamp and postmark available for a donation that will be used to pay postage for military families sending packages to their loved ones that morning.

Families of military personnel now serving overseas can mail care packages to their loved ones at no cost to an APO/FPO address until noon using flat-rate Priority Mail boxes.

This also will be YSU Scout Fun Day, and another unique postmark will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. in the M7 tailgate lot at Stambaugh Stadium using YSU’s unique ZIP code. From there, postal employees will pass out Flat Rat Priority Mailing Boxes for APO/FPO addresses that offer a $2 discount for mailing to service personnel.
