Doctor: Teen who strangled brother not psychopath

RISING SUN, Ind. (AP) — A court-appointed psychologist says he doesn’t believe an Indiana teenager who strangled his 10-year-old brother is a psychopath.

Dr. Edward Connor was cross-examined Monday during the fourth day of Andrew Conley’s sentencing hearing in the small Ohio River town of Rising Sun.

Prosecutor Aaron Negangard pressured Connor about whether the teen showed signs of a psychopathic personality, but Connor said the teen didn’t fit that profile.

The doctor testified that when Conley killed his brother Conner in November he was likely in a dissociative state — a condition in which the mind seems different than the body.

Defense lawyers are trying to persuade a judge not to sentence Conley to life in prison.
