Johnny Appleseed Festival in Lisbon
Walter Hanlon, 86, of Wellsville churns apples into apple butter at the 43rd Johnny Appleseed Festival in downtown Lisbon on Saturday. Hanlon, a member of the Yellow Creek Grange that sponsors the exhibit and apple-butter sale, said he has participated in the Appleseed fest for 42 years. He said 15 bushels of apples produces about 150 quarts of apple butter. The festival features various apple treats, displays, amusement rides, entertainment, fair food, a quilt show, a photo contest and more. The festival opens today with a church service at 11:45 a.m. Events will include the band Hired Hands and a bikers cruise-in from 1 to 4 p.m. The Lisbon Community Chorus will perform from 2 to 2:45 p.m., followed by an apple-ice-cream-eating contest sponsored by the Lisbon Grange. The free event ends at 8 tonight.
