The Home Builders Association of the Mahoning Valley will host its second annual Home & Harvest Show at the Eastwood Mall Expo Center from Saturday through next Sunday. The free event will feature more than 70 vendors and landscape displays, as well as crafters, handmade items and specialty foods. Attendees can register to win a free home-energy audit. Business Showcase

The Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber will host the 2010 Business Showcase Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Covelli Centre. The annual event, which is free and open to the public, will feature about 100 vendors. The showcase is an opportunity for businesses to connect and for the public to learn about commerce in the Valley.

Vendors will be on hand for the annual Business After-Hours Mixer, which will be after the event from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the mixer are $20 for Chamber members and $30 for nonmembers. To register, call 330-744-2131, ext. 12.

2 YSU students open Guitar Slinger Music

Youngstown State University students Varg and Katie Freeborn have opened Guitar Slinger Music, a new music store at 14 South State St. The store, which will carry musical instruments and supplies, will feature a live performance stage to showcase local musicians.

Charming Charlie to open mall store

Charming Charlie will open a 10,000-square-foot store in the Center Court of Eastwood Mall in early November. The store will sell a selection of women’s accessories and apparel using a color-coded merchandising system. Prices will range from $5 to $150, with most items below $50. The store will also include a “Charlie Girl” section for younger shoppers. The Houston-based retailer, founded in 2004, has 31 stores nationwide.

Workshop set for small manufacturers

Small manufacturers are invited to attend a free workshop at the MAGNET Innovation Center, 1768 E. 25th St., on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The hands-on event is designed to show smaller manufacturers how to achieve greater success by improving growth opportunities and financing. Topics covered will include growth strategies, key elements to obtaining financing and details about the types of financing available for smaller manufacturers.

Joan Burgers opens

Joan Burgers, a food trailer, has opened at 14330 Petersburg-Unity Rd. The truck offers breakfast and lunch items, including the “Joan Burger,” a 1/3 lb. patty, topped with grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms and melted provolone cheese.
