Chaney shuts out Yo. Christian

CANFIELD

George Leflore and Stephen Shackelford scored two touchdowns apiece on Saturday as the Chaney High football team defeated Youngstown Christian, 42-0.

Cowboys quarterback Robert Thompkins threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in the romp, which marked Chaney’s first win of 2010 and the first for coach Jim Vivo.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Leflore gained 150 yards on 20 carries while Shackelford registered 123 yards on 10 carries. Both Leflore and Shackelford (5-9, 165), are junior tailbacks.

Thompkins rushed for 57 yards on 10 carries and the 5-10, 175-pound junior threw for 121 yards. Thompkins’ TD tosses were to Kevin Little and C.J. Crosby. Crosby’s catch and run covered 66 yards.

The Cowboys (1-3) had 341 yards at the half and held Youngstown Christian (0-4) to one first down.

Friday

Ursuline 33, Bedford 15

YOUNGSTOWN

Akise Teague carried seven times for 110 yards and a TD, caught two passes for 51 yards and a TD and also returned an interception for a 35-yard touchdown to lead Ursuline.

Paul Kempe completed 5 of 8 passes for 84 yards and a score for the Irish (4-0), who led 26-0 at halftime.

Aaron Page added 76 yards rushing, while Jesse Curry had 66 yards and a touchdown and Trevor Smith 42 yards and a TD.

Wayne Mathews completed 15 of 27 passes for 158 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Jeff Podolsky, Curry and Tramain Thigpen each had eight tackles for the Irish while Kevin Cylar had the other interception.

Grove City 91, Franklin 12

GROVE CITY, Pa.

Foster Reznor and Eric Record both scored three times in the blowout, during which Grove City had all but 20 of its 459 yards of offense via rush.

Record gained 166 yards on the ground, while Reznor picked up 119 yards rushing for Grove City, which attempted 51 offensive plays to Franklin’s 44.

Franklin, which lost two of three fumbles and had four passes intercepted, managed 149 total yards.

Ironically, Franklin won the time of possession battle, 24:55 to 23:05.
