At sunset on Sept. 3, overlooking the water at Avion on the Water in Canfield, Lewis and Darlene Rogers of Youngstown celebrated 50 years of marriage by renewing their vows.
The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Steven A. Jackson, pastor of St. Andrews AME Church. Participating in the ceremony were many members of the original wedding party.
After the outdoor ceremony, a dinner and tribute program followed. More than 180 relatives and friends attended, many of whom were at the original wedding reception. The bride’s eldest brother, Rollie Kimbrough Jr., toasted the couple.
Mrs. Rogers was the first black councilwoman for the City of Youngstown.
Mr. Rogers, who is known as “Red,” retired from General Motors in Lordstown, where he was a manager.
The couple have two sons, Todd Rogers and Douglas Rogers, both of Maryland, and four grandchildren.
