YSU LIVE | 21-14 early in second quarter

The Youngstown State football team leads Central Connecticut State 21-14 early in the second quarter.

Jamaine Cook gave YSU an early 7-0 lead on a 45-yard run with 13:22 left in the first quarter. (You could hear one of the YSU coaches next the press box cheering the play as soon as Cook took the handoff, so he knew something no one else did.)

It was Cook's first collegiate touchdown.

Central responded with a 2-yard TD run by quarterback Gunnar Jespersen with 1:29 left in the quarter. The score came after Central LB Isaiah Boddie picked off YSU QB Kurt Hess and returned the ball to the Penguins' 42.

Cook struck again on the first play of the second quarter, busting through the left side of the line, breaking two tackles and getting a nice downfield block from Juilian Harrell en route to a 52-yard touchdown.

Cook has five carries for 115 yards so far.

It took just 32 seconds for Central to tie it, going 72 yards in two plays. Nate Pagan took it straight through the middle of YSU's defense for a 16-yard touchdown.

It could be one of those games.

The Penguins needed about 40 seconds to retake the lead, with Adaris Bellamy bursting through Central's defense for an 18-yard TD with 13:42 left in the second quarter.
