Woodside Elementary has seen many changes from last year, including a new principal and two new teachers. One of the new smiling faces in the halls, with an outgoing personality and a passion for teaching to match, is new second-grade teacher Jaclyn Moretti.

A native of Austintown and a Falcon from kindergarten to graduation, Moretti followed her passion for teaching to Bowling Green State University, where she graduated in 2003. She then pursued her master’s degree in reading at YSU. “My passion is reading — always. I’ve been teaching for eight years, but it’s still the subject that I’m most excited to teach when the school year starts.”

In her new second-grade classroom, Moretti teaches all subjects, but has used her passion for reading to spearhead a new reading program called The Daily Caf .

“The program aims to let the children read at their own level during the day, but to try to achieve the ‘Daily 5’— read to self, read to someone, work on writing, word work and listen to reading. I attended a workshop this summer and met the two sisters who created the program and I’m so excited to get it started at Woodside.”

Moretti’s excitement and passion for her work are easy to see.

“I have no doubt in my mind that teaching is what I was meant to do. Austintown is my home, and I’m dedicated to see my students and school system grow and sustain as a community.”
