Case involving knife on school bus probed
Staff report
WARREN
Police questioned a 13-year-old Summit Academy student accused of pulling a knife on a 16-year-old academy student on a city school bus Thursday morning.
Police released the 13-year-old to his parent after questioning him.
Summit Academy is a charter school on Arbor Avenue Southeast.
Warren police said they were called to Grandview Street and East Avenue Southeast just south of Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where the driver had detained the suspect in his seat and was holding the knife.
The driver said she went into the passenger area of the bus to see what was causing a commotion and took the knife from the suspect.
The victim said the fight started on the MySpace website about a month ago with name-calling and threats. When the suspect got on the bus Thursday, he confronted the victim with threats, the victim got up and pushed the suspect into his seat, then the suspect produced the knife and opened it, the victim said.
The driver arrived at that time and removed the weapon, the victim said.
The bus driver said she would provide police with a copy of the videotape from the interior of the bus.
No charges had been filed at the Trumbull County Juvenile Court as of Friday afternoon.
