Portman has huge lead over Lee Fisher for U.S. Senate seat

COLUMBUS — Republican Rob Portman opened a 20-point lead on Democrat Lee Fisher in the race for one of Ohio's U.S. Senate seats.

Of the likely voters surveyed by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute over the past week, 55 percent favored the former congressman, versus 35 percent who favor the lieutenant governor.

Another 58 percent said they would support the candidate who opposes President Barack Obama's policies.

"It's difficult to find any good news for Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher in these numbers," Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the institute, said in a released statement.
