Man shot dead outside a New Castle bar

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — Police say a 26-year-old man has died after being shot outside a bar here.

A New Castle police news release says Melvin Harper was shot in the hand and abdomen outside Wise Guys Bar. Police responded about 2:10 a.m. today to a report that shots had been fired in the bar's parking lot.

Harper was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, where he died.

Nobody has been charged in the shooting. Police say an autopsy has been scheduled for later today.
