Driver being charged

Police say a man who jumped out of a car during a traffic stop got away, but they learned his identity later.

The car, left in drive, traveled 100 feet and hit a cruiser, a police report says.

The report says an officer saw a man run a stop sign at Courtland Avenue and Gladstone Street. The officer tried to stop the car at Gladstone and Keystone streets, and the man jumped out, the report says.

The man ran north, and officers chased him into the woods. They got caught in heavy brush and tried to use a stinger device to stop him, the report says, but the man got away.

Officers had the car towed and contacted the owner, who said the driver was a relative named Uriah Sanders, 38, of Youngstown. Sanders is being charged with failure to control, driving under suspension, obstructing official business, not stopping after an accident, fleeing and eluding police and a stop-sign violation.
