2 tornadoes confirmed in violent Ohio storms

WOOSTER, Ohio (AP) — At least two tornadoes have been confirmed in the aftermath of violent storms that tore through Ohio, causing destruction and injuries.

The National Weather Service said today that a tornado with top winds of around 90 mph touched parts of three counties south of Columbus, tearing off parts of roofs and knocking over a semitrailer.

Another of roughly the same intensity damaged barns and a few homes Thursday in Holmes County, in northeast Ohio’s Amish country.

The weather service tells The Associated Press that teams sent to southeast Ohio are expected to confirm that one tornado touched down in Athens County and another in Meigs County.

An official in Athens County says 13 people were injured, with five still hospitalized today.
