Road reopened

The south end of West Golf Drive in Mill Creek Park has reopened to motor vehicles, restoring access to the park’s golf-course clubhouse from U.S. Route 224, park officials announced Wednesday.

That section of the drive had been closed since late July for drainage improvements, base repair, guardrail and culvert replacement and repaving, allowing motor-vehicle access to the clubhouse only from Shields Road during the construction.

Fugitive eludes FBI

FBI agents looking for a fugitive surrounded a township house Wednesday afternoon.

Tipsters called the FBI saying they saw the fugitive enter a house on Meadowbrook Avenue, but when agents searched the home about 2 p.m., the fugitive was gone, FBI agents said.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the FBI is not releasing the fugitive’s name or what the individual is accused of doing.

Rapist sentenced

WARREN

Michael A. Namish, 20, of Frederick Street, Niles, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping an 11-year-old girl in August 2009 in Niles. Namish pleaded guilty to two counts of rape Wednesday before Judge W. Wyatt McKay of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Assault, robbery

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating the assault and robbery of a 60-year-old woman on the city’s West Side.

According to police, the Lakeview Avenue woman was walking along Mahoning Avenue near Evanston Avenue heading to a local bar just before midnight Monday when a group of young men knocked her to one knee, took a $5 bill from her hand and attempted to steal her purse.

Arrested in rape

Bryan Dilling, 38, of Old State Route 344 has been arrested on charges of raping a 17-year-old girl, according to the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to the girl’s residence about 6:42 p.m. Monday. The victim said she had let Dilling have sex with her because she was afraid he would hurt her. She also told deputies he had raped her in the past, and she was afraid of him. She said she was afraid of becoming pregnant or contracting a sexually transmitted disease. Her mother was present and began swearing at Dilling, who was taken to the county jail on a charge of felony rape.

Sunset at the Farm

CANFIELD

Mill Creek MetroParks’ fall festival, Sunset at the Farm, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the MetroParks Farm, state Route 46 across from the Canfield Fairgrounds.

The free event features hayrides on wagons pulled by draft horses, campfire entertainment with Jon Mosey and freshly made apple butter and cider. Children can visit with farm animals, and there will be a marshmallow roast, a search for “needles” (toys) in a haystack and a trip through a cornfield maze. The festivities include a sack race and an egg toss. The fun and educational AgVenture Barn also will be open. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on at the campfire.
