The Girard City Health Department is announcing the flu vaccine will be available from 9 am. to noon Tuesday by appointment only. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the health department at 330-545- 6048. Your insurance card will be needed. Medicare, Anthem Senior Advantage, Railroad Medicare and Medicaid are accepted. All others are $20.

Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc. has received a $28,844 grant from the Hine Memorial Fund of the Youngstown Foundation to provide a centralized information and referral line for parents and caregivers of children with diagnosed disabilities who live in the city of Youngstown and vicinity.
“This general funding allows Help Hotline to broaden the depth of our services for special-needs families,” said Duane Piccirilli, CEO of Help Hotline. This new program is called Special Navigator for Families with Special Needs.
In addition to the 24/7 hotline support, the program will employ a part-time parent specialist. This specialist will provide callers with information and will help them navigate the social service, health care and educational systems.
The parent specialist will be housed at the Help Hotline Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., and will work nontraditional hours to meet the needs of families with special-needs children from birth through age 21. Contact with a parent specialist may be made by calling 330-747-KIDS at any time.

The Original Visiting Nurse Association of Youngstown will have a flu vaccination clinic at its office located at 518 E. Indianola Ave. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Call for an appointment or questions at 330-782-5606. Cost is $20 or Medicare and Anthem Senior Advantage accepted.
Pneumonia vaccine also will be available at a cost of $45 or Medicare accepted.
Children age 9 and older may receive the flu vaccine if they have an order from their physician.
Cancer awareness
YOUNGSTOWN
A prostate cancer awareness program will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Maronite Center, 1555 S. Meridian Road.
The program will feature speakers from Partners for Urology Health, a new center in Austintown providing world-class care to men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Baby sitter class

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is offering a baby sitter training class from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at their main office, 661 Mahoning Ave. NW.
Designed especially for 11- to 15-year-old boys and girls, participants will learn everything from safe play and changing diapers to first aid and choking rescues. They also learn how to behave if a stranger calls and what to do if a child gets sick.
As a bonus, the $40 course fee includes a student handbook and CD, a Red Cross pen and date book, 10 business cards, a wall certificate, and an exclusive “Red Cross Ready” T-shirt for each participant.
