Skating show discount delayed

Discount coupons for the Oct. 10 Skate for the Heart show at Covelli Centre will be available Thursday at all First Place Bank branches. The discount program was to begin today, but the coupons were not ready, said Kelsey Rupert, marketing manager for Covelli Centre. The coupons will entitle the bearer to $20 off the price of a ticket. They can be redeemed at the Covelli box office or online. Tickets are $36.50, $51.50 and $69.50, with a limited number of on-ice tickets for $89.50. Additional fees may be applicable. Skate for the Heart will feature vocalists Straight No Chaser, Ruben Studdard and David Archuleta, and about a dozen ice-skating champions, including Joannie Rochette. It will be taped and broadcast nationally at 4 p.m. Jan. 16 on NBC.

Local experienced musicians and licensed music educators are offering free music lessons on all band instruments to area students, grades 6-12. The program is supported by a grant from the Ohio Arts Council. Lessons will take place at sites in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, and are limited to 30 students in each community. Season passes for the 2011 season at Cedar Point are now on sale. Season passes can be renewed online or at the park for $95 (regular price is $106). New season passes also are available for $99.99. Those who buy a new season pass at the park will receive one free ticket, valid on the date of purchase. Junior and senior season passes ($69) also are available. All passes are good for unlimited admission but do not include admission to Soak City or free parking. For more information, go to cedarpoint.com. Beginning this weekend, HalloWeekends, the park’s fright festival, will be in operation Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 31.
