Post office plans special dedication

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown post office will recognize the contributions of Scouting in the community with a Scouting Stamp Special Dedication from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 25 in the lobby of the main post office, 99 S. Walnut St. As part of a Boy Scout project to send letters and care packages to members of the military serving overseas, a mailing station will be set up so members of the community can write letters or bring items for care packages.

A unique postmark will be used to recognize the event. Also available will be a scouting envelope with the Scout stamp and unique postmark. Donations given for the envelope will be used to pay the postage for military families sending packages to their loved ones that morning.

Military families with a loved one serving over seas may mail packages at no cost at the event. A family military ID needs to be presented.

After the post office event, the project continues in the M7 tailgate parking lot of Youngstown State University from 1 to 4 p.m. that day. The Scouting envelope will be available for letter writing and a second unique postmark will be applied. Packages cannot be mailed at this event, but flat-rate priority mailing boxes for APO/FPO addresses that offer a $2 discount for mailing to service personnel will be distributed.
