Former Dem party chairman in Cleveland indicted

CLEVELAND (AP) — The government has announced the indictment of the former Democratic Party chairman in Cleveland, the remaining top target of a federal corruption investigation.

Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora was named along with five co-defendants today in a 31-count indictment on charges including bribery, conspiracy and mail fraud.

The charges against Dimora include allegations that he took bribes in return for favors, including the steering of county contracts.

A call to Dimora’s attorney was not immediately returned.

The indictment comes days after charges were brought against another key figure in the investigation. County Auditor Frank Russo resigned Thursday after being charged with taking more than $1 million in bribes.
