Youth acting classes offered


YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre will have classes on Saturdays from Oct. 9 to Nov. 13 for students in grades 1-12. The $65 fee covers all six one-hour lessons. For registration and information, call 330-788-8739. The classes are:

“Max and Me — Where the Wild Things Are!” (9:30 a.m.; grades 1-3): A creative drama and movement class, focused on theater games, vocal and physical expression and working with others.

“Super Heroes and Super Heroines: To the Rescue!” (11 a.m.; grades 1-3): Super-heroes and a plot will be created. Stresses basic acting skills and story building. Performance given on last day.

“It Was a Dark and Stormy Night” (9:30 a.m.; grades 4-6; taught by Caitlin Driscoll): Centers on basic acting skills, stressing self-esteem, confidence and team work. Students will create a mystery play.

“Live From the Playhouse — It’s Saturday Morning!” (11 a.m.; grades 4-6; Driscoll): Uses classic theater games to teach improvisation, with emphasis on self-esteem, confidence and team work.

“Acting 101” (9:30 a.m.; grades 7-12; taught by John Pecano): Designed for beginners, it covers the basics of acting, with voice and body work, audition techniques, monologues and improvisational activities.

“Preparation for the Stage” (11 a.m.; grades 7-12; Pecano): For those with some experience. Includes script analysis, characterization, duet acting and scene study and introduction to lighting and sound design.
