Discount coupons for skating show

YOUNGSTOWN

Beginning Wednesday, First Place Bank will give out coupons for $20 off the price of a ticket for the Oct. 10 Skate for the Heart show at Covelli Centre. The coupons, which will be available for a limited time at all branches, can be redeemed at the Covelli box office or online. The show will feature vocalists Straight No Chaser, Ruben Studdard and David Archuleta, and about a dozen ice-skating champions. It will be taped and broadcast nationally at 4 p.m. Jan. 16 on NBC. Tickets are $36.50, $51.50 and $69.50, with a limited number of on-ice tickets for $89.50. Additional fees may be applicable.

Stambaugh Chorus plans Night at Derby

Stambaugh Chorus will have a fundraiser, “A Night at the Derby,” at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $15 and includes Kentucky Derby fare by Scarsella’s. Activities will include a decorated hat contest with judging and prize provided by Vivian Young of the Wrist Connection, a sing-along with Jan Crews on piano, basket raffles and a cash bar. Discussion will follow performance

A Downstage Dialogue discussion will follow Saturday’s presentation of “Our Town” at Victorian Players Theater, 702 Mahoning Ave. Downstage Dialogues, which are presented by the Youngstown Area Community Theatre Alliance, give the audience the opportunity to talk with the cast and director about the performance and the show. J.E. Ballantyne Jr., YACTA special events chairman, said the session will be valuable to school students who might be studying “Our Town.” Reservations are not required; audience members just have to stay after the show.

Ballroom-dancing event at Eastwood

The Youngstown-Warren Chapter of USA Dance will celebrate National Ballroom Dancing Week from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Eastwood Mall. Exhibits will be set up and a variety of dance presentations will be held in the main concourse of the mall.

USA Dance also will have a free dance Sunday at the Orthodox Center, 1025 Bella Vista Ave., Youngstown. It will begin with beginner lessons at 5 p.m., East Coast swing lessons at 5:30 p.m. and open dancing from 6:15 to 9 p.m. Partners are not needed.
