Fires burn 2 houses in city

Firefighters battled blazes at two vacant houses Monday evening.

The first fire, on East Philadelphia Avenue, was called in at 7:45 p.m., the Youngstown Fire Department reported.

The department reported that the first floor was heavily damaged, and one firefighter was slightly injured with a pulled shoulder.

The other fire, on East Judson Avenue, was called in at 8:30 p.m. The fire department reported that three small fires inside the house were quickly extinguished. There were no injuries. Both fires were arsons, and there were no damage estimates, the department said.
