More Ohio minority students taking SAT college entry exam

COLUMBUS (AP) — The percentage of Ohio minority students taking the SAT college entrance exam reached an all-time high this year, while test results held steady.

A report released today shows a record 19.9 percent of the state’s SAT takers were minority students, up from 19.2 percent in 2009. Five years ago, 16.6 percent of Ohio test takers were minorities. The growth in Ohio matches a national trend.

More than 28,000 members of Ohio’s class of 2010 took the SAT — 21.1 percent of high school graduates. The College Board, which administers the test, says 71.8 percent of Ohio test takers reported attending public schools.

Ohio students earned an average combined score of 1608 on the three sections of the exam, almost 100 points higher than the national average of 1509.
