Play games such as apple toss, apple in a haystack and apple walk and then enjoy an apple crisp or caramel apple at the seventh annual Liberty Township Apple Festival on Sunday.
The fruit shares the spotlight with an array of activities at the community event planned on the grounds of Windsor House at Liberty Arms Assisted Living and Liberty Healthcare Center located at 1353 and 1355, respectively, on Church Hill-Hubbard Road (state Route 304). Hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; rain date is Sept. 26.
Jamie Grimmett, activity director at Liberty Healthcare, said, “It’s a good time for families, and it won’t break the bank.”
Game tickets are $5 for 12 and may be used for games and raffles. Funds raised from ticket sales basically underwrite the cost of the event, Grimmett said. Any money left over is used for holiday- related incidentals for residents who are in the skilled-nursing unit and short- and long-term rehabilitation.
The festival will feature displays by the township police and fire departments, which will have vehicles there for children to explore. There also will be an auction with donations by local businesses, handmade crafts, games, dunk tank and a bounce-around.
Grimmett said the event originated to give residents who were unable to attend a fair a “fairlike” experience with food and activities.
“It’s a chance for residents to get out and have some fun with their families,” Grimmett said. “We love to have community involvement.”
Liberty High School students volunteer at the festival as part of their community-service project.
