The NAACP Youngstown Branch will have it 91st Freedom Fund Banquet and celebrate a new century of national service at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard. The guest speaker will be Dr. Wendy Webb, superintendent of Youngstown Public Schools.
The organization has chosen as its theme, “What Can Helping One Child Do? Build a Better Community.”
The emphasis this year is to not only continue to address the needs of the community but also to focus specifically on future hopes and aspirations of area youths.
To continue to help build a better community, the NAACP branch has assumed leadership positions in several community service areas. This past year it was the host group for a home foreclosure seminar at Choffin Center. The forum was conducted in partnership with NACA, a national agency designed specifically to address the needs of individuals facing the loss of their property.
The NAACP also collaborated with Youngstown State University and several civic organizations, including sororities, to prepare local residents for a regular census test.
Residents interested in helping to support the important work of the NAACP can purchase tickets for the event or place an ad in the souvenir book.
Tickets, $40 each, can be purchased by contacting any member of the organization. For more information on purchasing tickets or on placing an ad by the Sept. 24 deadline, contact the NAACP office at 330-782-9777.
