Gould 50th is celebrated during reunion

Dr. and Mrs. Ronald Gould of Liberty were honored by members of their extended family as they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary during a four-day Carlsten family reunion in Providence, Bristol, Warwick, Narraganssett and Newport, R.I., during the Labor Day weekend.
A formal cocktail party, dinner and dancing on Sept. 5 at the Waterman Grille, in Providence, was the featured event.
Attending the anniversary celebration were their children and their spouses, Erik and Nadia Gould of Chicago; Lars and Elizabeth Gould of Madison, Wis.; and Dirk and Amy Gould of Chicago; their grandchildren, Ethan and Jason Gould of Chicago; and the families of Mrs. Gould’s four brothers, who were instrumental in planning the celebration.
The former Marcia Margaret Carlsten and Ronald Gould were married Sept. 10, 1960, at the Church of the Transfigurations (Episcopal) in Cranston, R.I.
Mrs. Gould, a registered nurse, graduated from the former Youngstown Hospital Association and completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Youngstown State University, where she also received a master’s degree in community counseling. She was employed at Forum Health Northside Medical Center, Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital and the Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic, all in Youngstown. She is now employed part-time at the Neil Kennedy Clinic.
Dr. Gould graduated with a bachelor of music degree in organ performance and received a master’s degree and a doctorate in sacred music from the Union Theological Seminary. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1958.
From 1960 to 2002 he was professor of organ and music history at Youngstown State University and was organist-choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Youngstown, where he began the annual traditional celebration of the Boar’s Head an Yule Log Festival with the help of an Ohio Arts Council Grant. He founded Youngstown Musica Sacra, an organization specializing in the performance of sacred choral-orchestral literature.
Dr. Gould has served as councillor for education for the American Guild of Organists and as a member of the National Council in New York, 2002-2008. He is a member of the American Musicology Society and the Music Library Association, is on the boards of Stambaugh Auditorium Association and the Youngstown Opera Guild, and serves as a member of the Vestry at St. John’s. He and William Conti are co-chairmen of the Stambaugh Auditorium E.M. Skinner Organ Restoration Project, and he has been designated the manager of the project by the State of Ohio. He has also served six three-year terms on the board of the Youngstown Symphony Society.
