Canfield runner captures EP race

EAST PALESTINE

Canfield junior Jonathan Hutnyan pulled away from the pack to finish in 16 minutes, 53.1 seconds to win Saturday’s East Palestine Rotary Invitational.

Howland junior Troy Seagraves finished a team-best sixth to help the Tigers edge Fitch for the team title, 78-79. Canfield was third.

Salem senior Alex Stone placed second (17:06.2), followed by Waterloo senior Ethan Whittaker (17:29.9) and Quakers junior Nick Costa (17:53.5).

For the girls, Fitch freshman Carissa Jenkins finished in 20:00.1 to win the individual crown and help the Falcons place second.

Canfield sophomore Jennifer Love finished a team-best eighth as the Cardinals won the team crown 69-72. Poland was third with 77.

Poland sophomore Libby Rogenski was second (20:07.1), followed by Struthers senior Katelyn Ardale (20:14.2), Poland sophomore McKinsie Klim (20:14.5) and Waterloo senior Annie Wise (20:21.9).

Ray Sweeney Invitational

CHAMPION

Lakeview’s Nick Tripi won the individual title at the Ray Sweeney Invitational in 16:39.89, while Boardman’s Mark Hadley (16:49.33) and Alan Burns (17:09.49) finished 2-3 to help the Spartans capture the team crown, besting the Bulldogs 46-61.
