2 dead in 2 crashes
A 22-year-old man died after a single-car accident on state Route 46 Thursday, about a mile south of Lake Tavern in Mecca Township, and a New Castle man was killed around 8:15 p.m. Friday when his vehicle crashed into a utility pole on South Cascade Street.
Corey F. Osmon, with addresses in Niles and Homewood Avenue Southeast in Warren, died after his 1997 Mercury hit a tree just before 11 p.m.
Hydraulic equipment was used to remove Osmon from the vehicle.
Additional information was not available Saturday from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, which investigated the crash.
Meanwhile, New Castle police said Russell Cade, 75, of Grandview Avenue, was driving a 2005 Saturn sport utility vehicle, which crossed the center line, hit the utility pole, struck a construction sign, flipped onto its roof, struck a building and came to rest when it hit another utility pole, New Castle police said.
Cade was pronounced dead at the scene.
Weight-management program for kids

Registered dietitians from Humility of Mary Health Partners and the staff of the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA in Boardman have teamed up to provide a weight-management program for children 9 to 12 years old.
Called “SlimDown for Kids,” the program provides nutrition counseling and fitness training. Parents and guardians also participate in the program.
The program runs from Wednesday to Oct. 21, and participants meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays for fitness activities and 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for a nutrition class, which parents/guardians also attend. All classes are at the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road.
Registration is through the Y. YMCA members may register online. All others may call for a registration form at 330-480-5656. The cost is $60.
Motorcycle crash
YOUNGSTOWN
Police were investigating a motorcycle accident on state Route 711 near Interstate 680 that injured the driver.
The motorcyclist failed to negotiate a turn and crashed around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Youngstown police said. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. No name or condition was available late Saturday.
Kids escape fire
YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown firefighters put out a house fire at 65 Hilton Ave. on the city’s South Side at 3 p.m. Saturday. Eight children and their babysitter were able to escape the house without injury.
Damage was confined to a bedroom, Battalion Chief Gary DiTullio said.
