Girls soccer dominates
Tori Koch scored five goals and Fitch allowed just one shot on goal, as the varsity soccer team defeated West Branch 8-1 Sept. 4.
Fitch led shots on goal 17-1. The Falcons added six corner kicks.
Lauren Paolucci, Emily Durina and Jen Shiley each scored one goal. Emily Durina, Kelsey Martin, Kristen Schmidt, Kaity Shiley and Jenna Yacovone each had one assist and Mikah Vaughn had two.
The junior varsity team won 2-0. Juliana Figueroa scored a goal and Jenna Yacovone added an assist. Jessica Scott had one save.
Fitch girls tie with Boardman
The Austintown girls junior varsity soccer team tied 2-all with Boardman Sept. 1.
Austintown’s Jessica Scott had eight saves and Cassie Custer had three. Madison Hefner and Jayme Ritchie each scored one goal for Austintown. Custer also had one assist.

Fitch golfers fall to Boardman
The Austintown Fitch boys golf team was defeated 192-170 by Boardman Sept. 2.
Brian Basista led Fitch with a 45, followed by teammates Matt Matasy, 48; Vince Goleno, 49; Adam Catauro, 50; John Ullery, 54; and Kevin Miller, 57.
Junior varsity nets win and varsity falls
The Austintown Fitch junior varsity volleyball team defeated GlenOak in 25-20, 25-20 Sept. 1.
Leading hitter for Austintown was Alexa Lynn with 11 hits and four kills. Jen Mound had two blocks, Tori Wise had six assists and Jamie Matune, Jaileei Letlow, Marie Melfe and Lynn each had aces. Kayla Cyphert scored 11 points.
The varsity team lost to GlenOak 25-23, 23-25, 16-25 and 16-25. Leading hitter for the team was Sarah Hoelzel with 22 hits and seven kills. Julie Martinelli had two blocks and four aces and Britney Weidenthal assisted 22 times.
Fitch runner Jenkins fifth at Marlington meet
The Fitch girls cross country team finished seventh at the Marlington Invitational Sept. 4
Carissa Jenkins led the Falcons by finishing fourth overall with a time of 19:49.
The rest of Austintown’s top seven runners included Danae Kempe (32nd, 22:10), Sarah Guerrier (49th, 23:01), Zoe Logston (60th, 23:28), Amanda Choma (69th, 23:50),Mary Ann Tul (72nd, 24:05) and Taylor Marshall(87th, 25:01).
Louisville (27) swept the top three individual places to win the meet. Shaker Heights (72) finished second.
Fitch football giveaway
The first 1,000 fans through the gates at Falcon Stadium for the Hall of Fame Game Sept. 17 against Canton McKinley will receive an official “Quaker Steak & Lube Rally Towel,” courtesy of Quaker Steak & Lube, Austintown.

Golf team comes up short
The Austintown Fitch boys varsity golf team lost to Western Reserve 184-174 Sept. 1.
Matt Matasy led the way for Fitch with a 44. Brian Basista carded a 45, while Ian Offenbecher shot a 46. Vince Goleno scored 49, Kevin Miller shot 51 and Jon Ullery carded a 52.
Volleyball team’s efforts not enough
The Fitch volleyball teams were swept by Federal League power Lake Aug. 30.
The freshman lost their match in two sets, 25-7 and 25-17. The junior varsity team lost 25-14 and 25-7.
Despite the varsity’s best efforts, they lost in four sets, 25-18, 21-25, 25-16 and 25-21. The leading server was Britney Weidenthal with 18 points and four aces. Kacie Roche was the leading attacker for the day with 50 attempts and 14 kills.
Britney Weidenthal was the leading setter with 35 attempts and 22 assists. Leading defender Amanda Callahan received 21 serves and had 13 digs. Julie Martinelli led the team in blocks with six.
