Vet center celebrates grand opening

Mahoning Valley Veterinary Centre will celebrate its grand opening today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The new clinic is located at 3971 Main Street, just north of the Interstate 80 and Route 46 interchange in the Ridge Creek Plaza.

The grand opening includes tours of the new clinic, featuring its new DIA 3D animation client education system, food, prizes, fun for the kids and more.

Federation fundraiser benefits scholarships

Youngstown Area Federation of Women’s Clubs Inc., affiliated with the Ohio and General Federation of Women’s Clubs Inc., will host its annual luncheon and fashion show Oct. 20 at the Holiday Inn in Boardman.

The event is a fundraiser for scholarships. Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m.

Welcome back dinner for women’s league

The Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League will host its semiannual picnic open house Monday at the Elton Beard Cabin in the Boardman Township Park.

The open house will be in conjunction with the September “Welcome Back” dinner at 6:30 p.m. and general meeting at 7:30 p.m.

All members are asked to bring a covered dish for the picnic and school supplies to donate to a local school.

The Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League is open to all women over the age of 18, residing in Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties who are interested in friendship, fun and community involvement.

Their mission is to provide a creative outlet for women interested in providing community service in areas of arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs.

Take a guild meeting and bus tour Wednesday

The Diocesan Infant of Prague Guild meeting and bus tour will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception church in Ravenna, Ohio.

The bus will leave the Infant of Prague parking lot in Boardman at 8:30 a.m. After lunch in Ravenna, stops include the Kent State University Fashion Museum, Harry London Chocolate Factory and Flower Factory in Canton, Ohio.

A buffet dinner will follow at the 356th Fighter Group Restaurant in North Canton. On the return trip, there will be a stop at the Maps Air Museum.

Audition to be a ghost

The Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County will host auditions for the 2010 Ghost Walk Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Packard Music Hall for actors ages 18 and older.

Buy a silver lining ticket

That Quilt Group I Belong To is selling tickets to its annual charity quilt fundraising benefit for The Silver Lining Cancer Fund.

Top readers honored during NASA program

Children of all ages can sign up to learn NASA history and launch a paper rocket at the Boardman branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. The program will be held indoors if raining and an adult must accompany all children. Top readers from the Summer Reading program will be honored. Refreshments will be served.

Make botanical pottery

Lynn Cardwell will teach students to construct a clay bowl embossed with leaf patters Monday at Fellows Riverside Gardens from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The work will be glazed with autumn colors and ready to take home approximately three weeks after the class.

Learn to plant dahlias

Women’s health night

The St. Elizabeth Breast Care Advisory Board presents “Women’s Health Night” from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 22 at the St. Elizabeth Health Center Breast Care Center, 1044 Belmont Ave., Youngstown.

The event will offer a free health screening and mammogram for women 40-64 who are underinsured or uninsured and who do not have a history of breast cancer.

Quilts needed for show

Lordstown High School will host the Fabric Patchers Annual Quilt show Sept. 18-19.

Quilts will be accepted Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the school’s library.

CCNC hosts golf outing

Canfield Community Net Care is hosting its ninth annual Paul Baringer Golf Classic Monday at Mill Creek Park golf course in Canfield.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by breakfast at 10:15 a.m.

The shotgun start begins at 10:30 a.m.

Dinner and an awards ceremony will take place at 4 p.m.

Local theater company to perform a classic

Move Over Broadway Productions will present “The Gospel according to St. Matthew,” conceived and originally directed by John Michael Teblak with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.

This performance is being directed by Marlene Menaldi Strollo with musical direction by Jodine Pilmer and choreography by Nick Opritza.
