Violations

Here are some of the provisions of Ohio’s code of judicial conduct and rules of professional conduct for lawyers, which an assistant disciplinary counsel says former Judge Maureen A. Cronin violated by taking and not reporting an $18,000, no-interest loan from Flora Cafaro, part-owner of the Cafaro Co., in the summer of 2006, and not recusing herself from Cafaro Co. cases:

A judge shall uphold the integrity and independence of the judiciary.

A judge shall respect and comply with the law and shall act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.

A judge shall perform the duties of judicial office impartially and diligently.

A judge shall disqualify herself in a proceeding in which the judge’s impartiality might be reasonably questioned.

A judge shall avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety in all of the judge’s activities.

A lawyer shall not engage in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation.

A lawyer shall not engage in conduct that is prejudicial to the administration of justice.
