The Mahoning Valley raised $319,542 Monday for the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. The 45th annual telethon raises money each year for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The local MDA district met at Eastwood Mall to raise money that will help people in 14 Ohio counties. This year’s show reached 40 million viewers and raised a total of $58.9 million. MDA is a voluntary heath agency with the goal of conquering neuromuscular diseases that affect more than 1 million Americans.

Indianola detour

Part of Indianola Road closed Tuesday for a Youngstown Water Department construction project. Indianola, between Market Street and Southern Boulevard, will be closed until Sept. 21. Motorists can follow a detour along Market Street, Willow Drive and Southern Boulevard.

Well-child clinic

GIRARD

A well-child immunization clinic will be at 11 a.m. today in the health department in the city building. A $5 administrative fee will be charged per child. Dr. James J. Enyeart, medical director, will conduct the exams. Parents must bring a copy of the child’s immunization record, and a parent or guardian must accompany children under age 18.

Crash investigated

New Springfield

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that occurred late Tuesday afternoon in Springfield Township. Two cars collided on state Route 165 and Pine Lake Road around 5 p.m., according to a patrol report. An undetermined number of people were taken to the hospital, but none of the injuries was life threatening, troopers said.

Gunfire probed

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating a report that a 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were shot at early Tuesday. The two were in a car on Glenwood Avenue near Evergreen Avenue on the South Side when another car opened fire about 1 a.m., police said. When officers arrived at the scene, they saw a bullet strike from the rear window through the front windshield, according to reports.

POW/MIA tribute

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

The public is invited to Lawrence County’s 16th annual POW/MIA Recognition Day at 10 a.m. Friday in the meeting room of the Gettings Annex, next to the Lawrence County Government Center. Former prisoners of war to be in attendance are the Rev. James George, Theodore Shahade and Cyril Vrable. Gerald R. Glasser, who is missing in action in Korea, also will be honored.
