Library wins lottery

NEWTON FALLS

Sisters in Crime announces that the winner of the first “We Love Libraries” lottery is Newton Falls Public Library.

A local member of the group of mystery writers will present a check for $1,000 to the library when she visits at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The authors are having a yearlong “We Love Libraries” lottery with a random drawing determining the winner at the end of each month. The Newton Falls Library was the July winner.

Fun Day includes informative talks

Sunrise Assisted Living of Poland provided a luncheon for those attending the Senior Fun Day on Aug. 19 at Boardman Park Community Center. Senior Independence was in charge of blood pressure screenings.

Melissa A. Chambers explained the services provided by the Visiting Physicians Association. More information is available by calling 330-726-3379. Andy Junn spoke about Alzheimer’s Disease and the importance of participating in a Memory Walk scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at the center. Sue Gans led exercises and was the caller for bingo. Prizes were awarded and there was a craft.

The Sept. 16 Senior Fun Day will be hosted by Sunrise Assisted Living, and the Sept. 23 fun day will be hosted by Ron Joy/Sateri Homes. Seniors can register by calling 330-965-0482.

The J offers classes to fight teen obesity

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Jewish Community Center is offering a fitness and weight loss program for teens between the ages of 14-18 who are suffering from obesity or diabetes.

Participants in Club Fit for Teens will learn how to exercise with a certified personal trainer and learn healthful eating habits from a certified dietitian.

The class will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Oct. 5 to Nov. 11. The cost is $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers.
