Gun-store ban nears approval
CAMPBELL
City council passed to a third reading a proposed ordinance that bans gun stores in residential areas.
The council advanced the legislation at a recent meeting.
After one more reading and council approval, the ordinance will be adopted.
The ordinance bans the commercial sale of guns and ammunition and other weapons. It will be a new section of the city’s planning and zoning code.
The city was sued by Ohioans for Concealed Carry after it passed an ordinance banning the sale of guns citywide last year.
The ordinance went against Ohio laws, and the city’s law director recommended it be repealed. The council did so shortly before the suit was filed.
Law director Mark Kolmacic told council that Ohio law allows a gun ban in residential areas.
