Industry analysts on the Cruze

The Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze, which will hit showrooms later this month, has been generating buzz since it was first unveiled in 2008. The car, launched overseas in early 2009, has had a favorable reception from the automotive press. Here’s a sample of what the critics are saying about the Cruze:

The Cruze doesn’t raise the bar, it sets it. ...This Cruze will be recalled as the quintessential car that showed the world, and by the ‘world’ I mean Americans, that when it comes to small cars, Chevrolet could deliver.”

Scott Burgess, The Detroit News

The compact-sedan-segment big dogs — the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla — had better start looking over their shoulders for Chevy’s Cobalt replacement. ... The Cruze has better handling and a more enjoyable engine than its admittedly aging Honda and Toyota competition.

Bill Visnic, Edmunds.com

The Cruze makes no qualms about the fact that first and foremost it’s here to, well, cruise. ... American buyers used to a plush ride and a quiet cabin will likely feel right at home in the driver’s seat.”

Zach Bowman, Autoblog

GM has delivered a vehicle that finishes ahead of the competition in terms of powertrain refinement, ride quality and interior style. When the Cruze heads into production, Chevy will have the best compact for mainstream buyers.”
