Scrappers fall to Jamestown 6-4

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers went ahead briefly, then lost an early lead en route to falling to the Jamestown Jammers, 6-4, at Eastwood Field Saturday night.

Jamestown has won three in a row, the last two against Mahoning Valley (30-45).

The Jammers (42-32) remain 1/2 game behind Williamsport (43-32) in the NYPL wild-card race. The Crosscutters (43-32) also won on Saturday.

Zachary Neal (1-1) got the win and Jared Rogers got the save, while Ryan Gardner (0-1) was the loser.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Brian Heere singled on a ground ball to center and reached second on Kevin Fontanez’s sacrifice bunt to third. However, Giovanny Urshela flied out to right field to end the game.

Jamestown took a 1-0 lead before Mahoning Valley put up three runs in the bottom of the third.
