How many seatbelts in a truck?

How many seatbelts in a truck?

As one who witnessed the following, I am very confused about our seatbelt laws and who they pertain to.

On Aug. 26 at approximately 9 p.m., there was an accident involving a pick-up truck in the ditch along S. Raccoon Road in Canfield. That in itself is no surprise as the road is too narrow and has no berm, which makes this almost a weekly event. The question here is: Who is required to wear safety restraints? There were two adults and four children six years old and under in a pick-up truck with one bench seat. How many seatbelts do you think they had? Enough for all of them? Who do you think was wearing the seatbelts? The adults? The three small children? Or the baby in the car seat? Or were any of them?

A Mahoning County sheriff’s deputy actually stated that he really could not stop them from getting back into their truck again after it was towed out of the ditch. So I wonder just exactly what does the slogan “Click It or Ticket” mean and who enforces it?

As I watched them drive away I wondered just how safe were those children and who really cared? Remember this next time you forget to buckle up — apparently you don’t really need to. Just overload your vehicle and be on your way.
